Minimally Invasive Surgery at OCVH
In addition to conventional surgery, we are now performing many types of surgeries using laparoscopic techniques that dramatically reduce pain and speed up the recovery process for your pet. Laparoscopy has been standard practice in human medicine for years, but is only now starting to become available in veterinary medicine. We are proud to be one of a select few veterinary hospitals in New Jersey to offer this sophisticated and less invasive approach to surgery.
Laparoscopic procedures require one or two tiny (less than one inch) incisions and result in far less tissue damage and internal bruising than traditional surgery. Smaller incisions and less tissue damage mean less pain, faster healing for your pet along with a reduced chance for post-operative complications. Imagine having your female cat or dog spayed one day and having her feeling great the next! Other surgeries that can be performed with the assistance of minimally invasive techniques at OCVH include gastropexy to prevent bloat (GDV), abdominal organ biopsies and removal of bladder stones. There are also many other uses of this equipment such as evaluating ear and nasal diseases.
